Learn how to effectively use assessment techniques instruct.

Differentiated Learning

Workshop Duration: 2 - 4 hours

Teachers often want to know where to start with differentiated instruction. Differentiation is effective only through good use of formative assessments. When teachers formatively assess to drive differentiation, student engagement inevitably increases. In this session, teachers will gain new ways to improve their differentiated instruction practices. By assessing students formatively, teachers will know their students better and, therefore, make the best decisions to challenge them appropriately and engage them in the learning process.

In this workshop, Dr. Edwards assists teachers in enhancing their instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Learn how to effectively use diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment data to inform and guide instruction. Investigate and apply differentiated instruction techniques as an approach to providing quality instruction in which the teacher adapts the content, process, and product of lessons in accordance with each student's readiness, learning style, and interests.

Get strategic.

The participant will:

  • Evaluate current instructional strategies for diverse groups

  • Examine assessment data

  • Identify how to differentiate for content, process, and product and utilize anchor activities and tiered assignments for higher-order thinking skills.

  • Identify tools to help your struggling students keep up with instruction while helping your advanced students stay engaged, but challenged

  • Create tiered lessons

Learning is not a one size fits all; therefore, what is taught, how is taught, and how to assess understanding must be determined in order to meet the needs of all learners.
